  • Cocktail: Blind Pig’s Bacon Manhattan

The owners of The Blind Pig, a gastropub that opened in 2010 in Louisville’s Butchertown neighborhood, emphasize house-made European comfort food. They cure and smoke their meats and make their bitters and other cocktail ingredients as well.

That includes the coffee bitters and the bacon-infused Sazerac Rye that, when combined with Vya Sweet Vermouth, result in one of the most unusual cocktails you’ll encounter: the Bacon Manhattan.

This is one chewy cocktail. The lovely clear color doesn’t prepare you for the heavy, smoky bacon flavor, laced with salt and a hint of orange. Bold and highly complex, it’s a savory drink that you will savor through most of your meal - there’s no gulping this down quickly.

The restaurant also offers an extensive wine list, with an emphasis on European bottles, and a good selection of craft beer. The Blind Pig is located at 1076 E. Washington St.
